Dicyandiamide

In agriculture, it is used to suppress the microbial activity of nitrifying bacteria. It prevents the loss of nitrogen in animal manures susceptible to the action of denitrifying bacteria releasing nitrogen compounds in the form of soluble nitrates.
It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of melamine and other organic compounds.
